Oh so SAD…
As we approach the winter solstice, it seems SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is on the mind. Often called the ‘winter blues’, SAD can evolve into a debilitating depression. Not nice. It’s not enough that we have all been struggling with the roll-coaster ride we call the ‘financial crisis’, but it seems that when the nights become longer and the days shorter (and often times gloomier) this messes with our natural circadian rhythms, which affects our sleep, appetite and mood. This can lead to SAD, which affects many of us.
It’s enough to want to make any self-respecting creature want to crawl off and hibernate. Oh yeah…the self-respecting ones have already done that. Most of them live in the wild, sport furry coats and eat nuts and berries. They listen to their circadian rhythms. So where does that leave those of us who can’t trundle off into the woods and hibernate. Well, we are left to our own devices.
So if you are feeling SAD, as many of my hypnosis clients report they are, know that there is help. The medical community now has a better understanding of what works to beat SAD, including light therapy, herbal medicines, stress management (hypnosis is excellent at this) and pharmaceuticals. There are some great resources out there that can help. Visit MindClick Partners to discover resources. So stop being so SAD…it may be easier than you think.
