MindClick Answers Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What is hypnosis?
A: Hypnosis is a natural state of relaxed, but focused concentration whereby your mind
more readily accepts suggestion. Your subconscious mind extensively influences what you
think, what you feel, your choices and your behavior. During hypnosis we choose to directly
access and work with the subconscious mind. A common definition of hypnosis, which is
frequently attributed to the USA government is 'the by pass of the critical factor and the
establishment of acceptable selective thinking'. This definition simply means that the
limiting beliefs of the conscious mind are set aside so that new, more useful beliefs and
ideas may be established. This is how change occurs with hypnosis.
Q: Can I be hypnotized?
A: Of course you can! There is no magic to hypnosis. While some people have more
natural ability, most people of normal intellect, some ability to concentrate and the desire to
be hypnotized will succeed with hypnosis. You control your hypnosis experience. Your mind
and body know how to do this.
Q: What does hypnosis feel like?
A: Most people report that they find hypnosis relaxing. You are aware, awake and alert.
You are in control at all times and you find that you can remember everything that happens
and is said while in hypnosis. You emerge from your session feeling calm, refreshed and
empowered – knowing that you are now more in control of your life.
Q: How does hypnosis work?
A: With the hypnotist’s knowledge and skills you are guided into the hypnotic state where
you have access to your deepest memories, thoughts, emotions, and beliefs. During
hypnosis, the hypnotist uses specific techniques to allow you to ‘unlearn’ beliefs and
perceptions that no longer serve you and are interfering with your daily functioning, health,
or the achievement of your goals and dreams. While hypnotized, you then easily ‘learn’ and
establish new perceptions, thoughts and beliefs that will better serve you and your specific
goals for the future. Hypnosis is the fast, safe, easy, drug-free, fat-free, guilt-free, natural,
cost effective, and totally legal way to achieve the positive, lasting results that you have
been searching for!
Q: When I am in hypnosis will I be asleep?
A: Hypnosis is not sleep. You are conscious, awake, alert and in a state of very focused
attention. Though many people enjoy hypnosis with eyes closed and feeling very relaxed,
neither closed eyes or relaxation are necessary for hypnosis to occur
Q: When I was in hypnosis my hands felt warm and tingled. Is that normal?
A: Everyone experiences hypnosis in their own way. Many clients report warm and tingly
sensations in hands, feet, arms and even legs. Some individuals report other common
physical sensations such as lightness, heaviness, numbness or relaxation. The
experience of hypnosis can 'feel' different not only from person to person, but also for the
same person from session to session. Like many other natural human experiences the
experience of hypnosis is unique and 'normal' to each individual.
Q: Can I become 'stuck' in hypnosis?
A: No you cannot become 'stuck' in hypnosis. During hypnosis you are in control. Let me
repeat that, "You are in control!" You determine how quickly and easily you enter into
hypnosis, how deeply you go, and when you are ready to emerge from hypnosis. The
hypnotist is your expert guide during the process and has the skills and techniques to
make the hypnosis experience easy, enjoyable, and effective. Should a person be
hypnotized and the hypnotist leave him/her in that state, that person would either drift into
sleep an then awaken or emerge from hypnosis in a very short time.
Q: Why might I need hypnosis?
A: Sometimes we feel stuck, blocked, frustrated – are struggling to change and need
help. Hypnosis works for children and adults, to address personal and professional
concerns or issues. This includes, but is not limited to:
• Changing habits, fears and behavior
• Improving performance and success
• Alleviating physical symptoms and improving health
• Improving attitude and relationships
• Releasing painful emotions and thoughts
Q: Will I need a clinical referral?
A: MindClick may seek a clinical referral from your licensed physician, psychologist or
naturopath if you are seeking hypnosis for an active, diagnosed, clinical condition.
MindClick works in partnership with these providers. Hypnosis services do not replace
traditional medical or surgical treatment. Hypnosis services are used complementary to
your existing treatment plan. A medical referral is required for all pain management issues.
Hypnosis has been accepted by the Canadian Medical Association, the American Medical
Association and the British Medical Association for over 50 years.
