Hypnosis Out of the Closet: Oprah Outs Hypnosis
West Vancouver nurse and clinical hypnotist Janice Manson brings needed
hypnosis services to Vancouver and talks about clinical hypnosis, past life
regression and the mainstreaming of hypnosis

West Vancouver, BC - ‘More Bedroom, Less Boardroom’, ‘Thought Cradle: Preparing For
Pregnancy’ and ‘Breaking The Chain, Ending The Gain’ These are just some of the more than
20 intriguing
MindScriptives™ change workshops offered by hypnosis specialist MindClick
Partners Inc, West Vancouver’s most recent addition to the wellness and personal
development scene.

Hypnosis has finally come out of the closet. Long hidden away in non-descript office buildings,
strip malls, and home offices, hypnotists rarely put their businesses in visible locations and
still are hard to find. MindClick has changed all that. Nestled between an established men’s
wear boutique and a booming interior design business, MindClick Partners, tagged as ‘the way
to change™’ recently opened its doors on pedestrian-heavy
Bellevue Avenue. Just a stone’s
throw from the West Vancouver sea wall, the facility is spacious for workshops, the decor
chic and, yes, there is a comfy leather chaise for your
1:1 hypnosis sessions.

“I set out to be highly visible because I think it’s time hypnosis and hypnotists stopped hiding.
Millions of people use hypnosis every day to solve problems and improve their lives.
Vancouverites are sophisticated. They understand the value of an approach like hypnosis that
is non-invasive, non-pharmacological,
supported by science, and yet so effectively lets them
deal with a wide range of physical, mental and emotional issues,” states Janice Manson RN
MN DCH.

Much to Manson’s delight, hypnosis is becoming more visibility featured in mainstream media.
Aside from the usual comedy stage shows and cheesy Hollywood movies, hypnosis has lately
been getting a more realistic and serious treatment. A recently aired episode of House, the
popular Fox Broadcasting Company series starring Hugh Laurie, saw Laurie’s character, the
cynical Dr. House, undergo medical hypnosis to retrieve memories following a trauma. Then,
on May 13, 2008,
Oprah Winfrey broadcast an episode of Oprah, which featured Dr. Brian
Weiss the prominent physician, hypnotist and past life regression researcher. With the help of
the good Drs. Weiss and Oz, Oprah explored
hypnosis, hypnotic regression and the
phenomena of past life. Part 2 of that series airs June 17, 2008 and promises to be equally
enthralling.

Manson states, “I have clients who come to me curious about past life and wanting to do
hypnosis to investigate the possibility. I expect that Oprah’s recent show on past life
regression will bring even more clients wanting to use hypnosis to explore if there is a
relationship between a problem they are having now and a possible past life. There are many
things in life we cannot yet explain, so it is impossible for me to discount the possibility of the
experience.
I meet the client where they are. Sometimes hypnosis takes us to a place we
don't expect.”

Whether or not hypnosis can shed light on past life, hypnosis has been researched by the
National Institutes of Health in the USA and by many prominent neuroscientists and mind-body
researchers world-wide. In the early 1970’s, Dr. Herbert Benson, Associate Professor of
Medicine at Harvard Medical School, identified the health and medical benefits of evoking the
human relaxation response.  He pioneered research in this area and went on to establish an
institute for mind-body medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. Manson adds, “Hypnosis
lets individuals tap into their relaxation response so it naturally complements, but does not
replace, any traditional medical care a person may be receiving by addressing the stress
aspect of the condition.”

Manson, a registered nurse, is the owner and Clinical Hypnotist at MindClick. With a Master’s
degree in Nursing from the University of Washington, Seattle and long career in nursing
service, nursing education and healthcare information systems, Manson decided it was time
to finally realize her dream to become a certified hypnotist. Trained in hypnosis in London, UK,
Manson first became captivated by hypnosis at the age of 12 when she saw the Barbra
Streisand movie ‘On a Clear Day You Can See Forever’. In this 1970 film, Barbra Streisand
plays a chain-smoking character named Daisy. Desperate to quit smoking before she meets
her fiancé Warren’s (Jack Nicholson) parents, Daisy seeks out the help of a doctor (Yves
Montand) to help her kick the habit. To Daisy’s and the doctor’s surprise when Daisy is
hypnotized she finds herself regressing to past lives.

Like Streisand’s Daisy, people wanting to
quit smoking are just one of the types of clients that
seek Manson’s services. A typical day can see Manson doing hypnosis with an actor wanting
to
improve line memorization, a lawyer wanting to manage her weight, a business man
wanting to
improve sales performance, a construction worker wanting to solve an erectile
dysfunction problem and a 30-something couple wanting to boost their fertility. “I love my
work”, says Manson. “My clients come from all walks of life. I work with children as young as
six years old and adults. All of my clients are highly motivated to change. Often these are
people who have tried many other approaches to solve their issues without success. They
may be seeking hypnosis as their last hope, but it doesn’t have to be that way. If they come
early in the process, clients can often avoid frustration and get a lot more gain with a lot less
pain. Hypnosis can be used to prevent rather than to just solve a tough problem.”
